FullWrite 1.7 is a minor upgrade to FullWrite. If you are upgrading from FullWrite 1.5s, there are only two differences:
• An incompatibility with Quadra and Centris Macintosh systems which had prevented FullWrite from being run if the 68040 processor cache was enabled has been fixed.
• An incompatibility with System 7 that caused the Set Margins dialog to disappear has been fixed.
If you have FullWrite 1.5s and do not have System 7 and/or a 68040 Macintosh, you do not need FullWrite 1.7.
••How do I get FullWrite 1.7?
There are two ways to get FullWrite 1.7:
• If you have FullWrite 1.5s, you can make use of one the converters included with this file. See below for instructions.
• Or, you may order a copy of FullWrite 1.7 from Akimbo Systems. The FullWrite 1.7 upgrade is available free of charge to owners of FullWrite 1.5 or above, and is $20 to owners of prior versions. A $7.50 shipping and handling charge applies. A dedicated toll-free number has been created to take orders for FullWrite 1.7 only. To order FullWrite 1.7, call 1-800-375-6515.
Akimbo Systems has announced that FullWrite 2 upgrades will be priced at $99 for all current users of FullWrite. Users paying $20 to upgrade to FullWrite 1.7 will be credited this amount when upgrading to FullWrite 2. This pricing effectively means that the FullWrite 1.7 upgrade is free of charge to all users who upgrade later to FullWrite 2.

••Using the Converters
If you have FullWrite 1.5s or 1.6(p1), you can use one of the FullWrite Converters to upgrade your copy of FullWrite. There are two converters — one for FullWrite 1.5s and one for FullWrite 1.6(p1). FullWrite 1.5s was the last version of FullWrite shipped by Ashton-Tate/Borland; FullWrite 1.6(p1) is the version number you would have if you had patched FullWrite 1.5s with a patch program supplied by Ashton-Tate/Borland.
•To Convert Your Copy of FullWrite:
1) Backup your copy of FullWrite.
2) In the Finder, select FullWrite and choose Get Info from the File menu. Use the version number shown to determine which converter you need to use.
3) Run the appropriate converter and select your FullWrite application file when prompted to do so.
If you have virus protection software installed, you may need to deactivate it before running the converter. DON’T FORGET TO REACTIVATE YOUR VIRUS SOFTWARE AFTER COMPLETING THE CONVERSION.
After conversion, the version number in the About box will not change, but the version number in the Finder’s Get Info window will indicate the correct version.
••Distributing the Converters
These converters may be freely distributed provided:
• The entire set of four files (2 converters, 2 Read Me files) are distributed together.
• The four files are not modified in any way.
• No charge is made for the converters. Standard connect charges for online services or standard disk copying charges for non-profit user groups are excluded.

••Compatibility Notes
This section details compatibility problems in FullWrite 1.7. These problems will be addressed in FullWrite 2.
•System Extensions Which Modify Menus
If you have an extension installed which modifies menus, FullWrite’s keyboard menu controls may be deactivated or may not work in the menu(s) modified by your extension. For example, Adobe Type Reunion explicitly disables FullWrite’s keyboard menu controls (for all menus, not just the Font menu). With some extensions, auxiliary menu commands (displayed when you press Option or Shift while the menu is open) or FullWrite Stationery (as your default document) will also be disabled.
One particular case is fax extensions that modify the File menu (to say “Fax…” instead of “Print…”). If you have chosen the Fax in the Chooser, FullWrite’s Print command will send a fax, even if the menu item does not change. Additionally, some of these extensions automatically choose the Fax as your current printer when you hold down modifier keys while selecting from the File menu. If you have this feature, one of the following procedures should work (the first one is easier to use, so try it first):
(1) Click on the Apple menu first, then drag over to the File menu. If the extension requires you to hold down modifier keys, hold down the modifier keys when clicking on the Apple menu. Which modifier keys are used don’t matter, as long as you click on the Apple icon first.
(2) Switch to the Finder. Hold down the modifier keys and click on the application menu. Release the modifier keys and switch back to FullWrite (note: if you don’t release the modifier keys, it will hide the Finder if the option key is one of your modifiers). The Fax will now be the selected printer. Your previous printers should be automatically re-chosen the next time you use a menu in any other application other than FullWrite.
•LaserWriter 8.0
Some users have reported problems when using the new LaserWriter 8.0 driver or printing to some non-Apple PostScript printers. The problem occurs because FullWrite sends custom PostScript code when printing to a PostScript printer in order to get higher quality printing. Evidently, this code is incompatible with LaserWriter 8.0. There is a small patch that can be applied to FullWrite which will disable all of the custom PostScript code. This will provide compatibility with the LaserWriter 8.0 driver at the expense of lower printing quality. We have not preinstalled this patch in order to preserve higher-quality printing for users who are still using LaserWriter 7.0 or below. If you don’t need version 8.0 of the LaserWriter driver, consider using the old printer driver until FullWrite 2 ships. You can also have both drivers installed on your disk and switch between them as necessary with the Chooser.
If you must use LaserWriter 8.0, here’s how to apply the patch:
• Make a backup copy of your FullWrite application.
• Launch ResEdit and open FullWrite and the LaserWriter 8.0 Patch file.
• Copy the PSET resource from the patch file.
• Paste the PSET resource into FullWrite. When ResEdit asks if you want to replace resources with the same ID, click the Yes button.
• Save FullWrite and quit ResEdit.
• Make sure you have no unsaved files in any open applications.
• Double-click on the patched copy of FullWrite.
• Print to verify the correct application of the patch.
• Discard your backup copy of FullWrite.
